The MPSA20 bipolar transistor is mainly used for analog and digital signal switching and amplification. Working Principle

The MPSA20 transistor is a three-terminal device consisting of an emitter, a base and a collector. Current flows from the emitter to the collector when the voltage applied to the base is high enough. This is known as the forward current, or the linear region. When the voltage is reversed, the collector–base current decreases, known as the cut-off region. When the voltage is slightly high, the transistor is in the saturation region.

The operation of the MPSA20 can be understood in terms of two currents. The first is called the collector current and is the result of the amount of electrons, called the minority carriers, entering the transistor from the base. This current, referred to as the saturation current, is usually constant and small. The second current is the base current which is the result of a current of electrons and holes flowing out of the emitter. This current is called the forward current, since it is responsible for the forward bias of the transistor.
