NCP1575D is a low-power, adjustable synchronous step-down voltage regulator with a wide input voltage range. It is designed with a high efficiency current-mode PWM controller configured to operate in a synchronous mode, providing excellent dynamic regulation and a wide output range. The NCP1575D is built on TI’s proprietary Femto-Rail technology, providing low dropout voltage across the entire input range and a high efficiency power delivery without the need for costly thermal designs.

Application Field

The NCP1575D is aimed for a large variety of low-voltage or low-power applications such as portable computers, notebook PCs, LCD TVs, networking and telecom equipment, automotive, smart phones, and other applications where high efficiency and low profile are required. It is also suitable for fixed regulated applications such as LCD monitors and power supplies that have a wide input voltage range of up to 32V.

Working Principle

The main components of the NCP1575D are the integrated high-voltage synchronous MOSFETs, current sense amplifier, and the current mode PWM controller. The MOSFETs turn on and off in synchronization with two dedicate internal clock. This switching is controlled by the programmed output voltage and feedback from the current sense amplifier.

The NCP1575D is designed for maximum flexibility and uses an integrated, actively adjusted non-linear ramp generator along with a gain control to optimize the transient response. This feature greatly simplifies output voltage setting for applications requiring fast transient response, such as motherboards, POLs, and data processing systems.

The device has two separate stand-by modes, light load and heavy load, to maximize battery life. When the output load current is below the light load current threshold, the device enters into stand-by mode and the switching frequency is automatically reduced by a factor of four. In addition, the circuit design of the NCP1575D allows the user to set the switching frequency in the range of 200 kHz to 2.3 MHz.

Furthermore, the NCP1575D offers a wide range of protection and diagnostics features, including drain-source short circuit protection, overvoltage protection, thermal shutdown, undervoltage lockout, and open loop protection. This ensures safe and reliable operation of the system.
