The board allows for easy evaluation of NCP3102B Synchronous Buck Controller features, basic performance, and application characteristics. This board comes as a complete solution for high-current buck-converter design and development. It consists of a NCP3102B Synchronous Buck Controller IC, components, and other features to make your design test and validation easy. The NCP3102B Synchronous Buck Controller from ON Semiconductor offers unprecedented performance and features for high current buck-converter designs. The NCP3102B is capable of providing up to 30A output current at VIN of 45V DC. The operating frequency range of the NCP3102B is from 200kHz to 1.2MHz. The wide operating frequency range allows for design flexibility for both high and low-voltage applications. It also features low-cost integrated current sense and output voltage loop.The features of NCP3102B Synchronous Buck Controllers extend far beyond that of traditional buck controllers. It provides system-level specifications including light load efficiency, low device EMI, current limit, and soft start. The NCP3102B also includes system-level power cycle protection known as pulse-skipping. This allows for safe operation of the device in the event of an overcurrent condition.The NCP3102BUCK1GEVB offers users a fully integrated, low-profile evaluation Board. It is designed with industry-standard through-mount components such as 0.4mm or 0.8mm pitch female headers to interface to other test and development board. NCP3102BUCK1GEVB consists of all of the components needed to drive the NCP3102B Synchronous Buck Controller. The board includes an output voltage feedback resistor, as well as integrated current sense and soft start resistors. It also includes an external shutdown pin, a enable pin, and a soft-start pin. The board is ready for power input and output with DC-Jack connectors for both power input and output. The DC input voltage is NOT limited, so as to allow for operation in a wide variety of operating supply voltages. The NCP3102BUCK1GEVB uses an inductor and several ceramic capacitors to provide design flexibility for low-EMI and other applications. Working principle of the NCP3102BUCK1GEVB is simple. The board uses ON Semiconductor’s Synchronous Buck Controller IC, the NCP3102B. This IC is configured to reduce an input voltage to a lower output voltage, allowing for easy evaluation of the controller IC features and performance. The NCP3102B uses a hysteretic control loop to synchronize the controller to the input voltage, as well as to control the output voltage. The hysteretic control loop utilizes an adjustable dead time to set the switching frequency. The frequency is set using an external clock input pin. The DC input voltage is fed through a power path MOSFETs and is input to the controller. The controller will switch on and off at a frequency set by the external clock, producing a high frequency pulse-width modulated (PWM) signal. The PWM signal is then used to control the MOSFETs, allowing them to alternately charge and discharge the inductor and filter capacitor. This process reduces the input voltage to a lower output voltage at the desired current limit setting.The application field of NCP3102BUCK1GEVB includes AC/DC and DC/DC power designs in computer servers, computers, telecommunication systems, consumer devices, aerospace and automotive applications.
