PE43701MLI is an analog attenuator designed for precision control of RF signals in a broad range of wireless/landline applications. It offers a wide dynamic range featuring a rugged plastic package with low phase-shift and low insertion-loss, and is suitable for applications such as test and measurement equipment, cellular/PCS infrastructure, consumer and professional audio equipment, industrial/medical diagnostic systems, laboratory instrumentation and satellite communication equipment.The PE43701MLI features a low cost high linearity design and is matched to 50 ohms system impedance. Its small size of 1.67 x 0.85mm makes it an ideal choice for dense layouts, and with a wide operating temperature range of -55 to +125 degrees Celsius ensures superior performance when operated outdoors.The PE43701MLI attenuator was built using a metal-layer-interference (MLI) process which enables reliable matching of the external RF ports and control signal port under extreme temperature and humidity conditions. The RF ports are designed with high impedance to provide low insertion-loss and low phase-shift. Additionally, it is designed with a high linearity to provide excellent signal control with minimal distortion.The PE43701MLI is a compact solution for impedance matching and power control as its impedance can be precisely adjusted over very low power levels. This makes the device an ideal choice for applications such as power control, antenna back-off, gain/attenuation control and dynamic range control. In addition, its isolation from RF ports to control port further enables power control while protecting the control signal from external RF signals.In terms of its working principle, the PE43701MLI is a voltage-controlled attenuator which allows for precise control of signal power. It features a wide dynamic range with excellent linearity and low phase-shift. The device has an adjustable reference voltage, between 0V and 6V,which is used to vary the input signal power. This reference voltage is compared with the control voltage, and a difference in these two voltages causes an attenuation or boost in the signal. As with any other VCA, the attenuation is expressed in decibels (dB) and can range from -60dB to +10dB.To conclude, the PE43701MLI is an ideal solution for RF signal control in a wide range of applications.
