.Power Factor Correction (PFC) describes the process by which a power supply adjusts the amount of electrical current it draws from the AC mains to match the load demanded by the load circuit. As a power supply draws current from an AC (Alternating Current) source, a number of parameters are altered which affect the efficiency, the stability and the background noise it produces. PFC seeks to lower the power drawn from the AC mains by keeping the input voltage and frequency constant and by reducing the overall fluctuation of the current when power is being supplied. The result of this is a stabilized power supply with a decreased amount of electrical noise.The PFS724EG is an example of a power factor correction (PFC) device. This device is integrated with two half-bridge topologies which enable the power factor correction and power supply design stages. It is suitable for applications that require power supply correction with a maximum input voltage of 400V.The PFS724EG device contains a power factor correction (PFC) controller which is based on a current-mode control architecture. This architecture is a part of the analog architecture and is used to decide the amount and direction of the current drawn from the AC mains and supplied to the load circuit. The current-mode controller enables the design and control of an efficient power factor correction circuit that is easy to use and tune.In addition to the current-mode controller, the PFS724EG device also contains a PFC boost converter and a half-bridge topology. The PFC boost converter is designed to maintain current regulation and is pushed into circuit equilibrium by the current-mode controller. It is capable of providing an output voltage that is much higher than the input voltage from the AC line. Meanwhile, the half-bridge topology is used to convert the DC output from the boost converter to an alternating output which is suitable for the load circuit.The PFS724EG is ideal for power factor correction applications that require a high input voltage up to 400V. The integrated architecture of the device combined with the current-mode control and half-bridge topology provide an efficient and reliable power factor correction device. The device is also easy to use and tune, making it a great choice for cost-effective power factor correction solutions.
