Power Factor Correction (PFC)Power Factor Correction (PFC) is a term used to describe an electrical device or circuit which improves or corrects the power factor of an AC supply. It is an electronic system used to maintain certain conditions in a power supply, such as a correct balance between the line frequency, line voltage, regulator, transformer and load current. PFC prevents the distortion of the line voltage, which could interfere with the operation of other electrical components.The PFC7524L is an integrated power system-on-chip that is capable of providing industry-leading power conversion in both AC-DC and DC-DC topologies. Its advanced architecture and dedicated components enable low power losses, high efficiency, robust protection and easy implementation. The PFC7524L has integrated, high-efficiency, high-frequency power conversion and is suitable for applications requiring up to 8A typical output current.The PFC7524L is a high-performance, low-pin-count, low-power integrated device designed to provide industry-leading power conversion and system regulation in both AC-DC and DC-DC topologies. This component contains many features and is suitable for a wide range of applications, such as LED-backlit LCD displays, LED lighting, digital home appliances, automotive applications, personal computing, and industrial power systems. The PFC7524L features a full-bridge synchronous rectifier that provides a fast and reliable power conversion with high power density. This component also features an integrated control/protection/voltage feedback circuit, as well as a low-impedance power stage controller. The integrated linear regulator feature of the PFC7524L allows for lowripple, low-voltage operation. The integrated circuit includes an important feature, the “power factor correction” (PFC). This feature provides the ability to minimise the instantaneous current distortion (or “ripple”) that is applied to the input voltage of the power system. When used properly, PFC can improve the power quality of an electrical system and help reduce the demand for reactive power. The PFC7524L operates from an external PFC module and includes an input voltage range from 0V to 100V DC. It contains a high-efficiency, low-noise full-bridge synchronous rectifier, as well as high-frequency power conversion. This component features advanced protection features, such as short-circuit protection, soft-start, readjustment of the maximum power limit, temperature monitoring and protection, over-voltage protection, and high-frequency shut-down.
