A TVS (Transient Voltage Suppressor) Diode, or more commonly referred to as a “spike suppressor” or “surge suppressor” is a protective device used to safeguard sensitive electrical and electronic equipment from sudden electrical power surges or spikes. It is designed to absorb the excessive energy and immediately dissipate it as heat, safely allowing the electrical system to operate as normal, without any disturbances.
The SMF54A-M3-08 is a general purpose TVS diode from Diodes Incorporated, designed to be used in a wide range of consumer and commercial electronics. The device is designed to protect electronic equipment from very fast transients, and is capable of holding off high voltage transients up to 5.4kV ESD, as per IEC61000-4-2 specification.
