PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) are utilized to facilitate power supply regulation in a wide range of electronic applications. The SP705CN-L supervisor is a low power CMOS IC offering up to five monitoring functions. Working Principle.
The SP705CN-L has a wide monitoring range of 0-5V, allowing it to accurately detect supply voltage at the microprocessor. An internal voltage reference and comparator circuit detects brown-out conditions and an internal timer will pull the RESET signal low when the detected voltage is low. This ensures that the reset signal is held low until the voltage reaches valid levels for the processor to operate. There is an additional voltage monitoring function to monitor the CPU core and an internal timer for powering up the system. It works similarly like the brown-out detection where it will pull the RESET signal low when the detected voltage is low in order to protect the processor from overvoltage. As for power-on reset, the device will output a low logic level on the RESET pin when the power voltage reaches its operating voltage, so that the processor can start up safely.
The device also includes an open drain Reset_out signal output, providing an active high reset output loop back to the power supply and multiple reset systems. This output provides flexibility in reset generation and allows the system to recover from multiple reset conditions simultaneously.
