The STEVAL-ISA145V1 is an evaluation board for DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS from the STMicroelectronics portfolio. The STEVAL-ISA145V1 board is specifically designed to evaluate the ISA1450 and ISA1451 PWM controllers, used in cost-effective and power-efficient AC/DC non-isolated flyback SMPS applications. It can also be used to evaluate the ISA1456 and ISA1457 PWM controllers, used in DC/DC non-isolated buck applications.

The board has an enhanced active and passive component selection allowing users to evaluate various configurations to suit their specific requirements, such as different power levels, minimum inputs, output voltage, ripple, and other parameters. Additionally, it provides an easy setup, enabling users to quickly implement their own designs with confidence.

The STEVAL-ISA145V1 board is a low profile, 4-layer board with magnetics, Schottky, diodes, IGBTs and gate drivers integrated for a complete solution. It is compactly sized which helps to reduce power dissipation and avoid thermal issues. The integrated components and the board design also help in reducing the total component count. This allows users to build high-performance, efficient designs with minimum component count.

This evaluation board features the STMicroelectronics ISA1450/1/6/7 PWM controllers, as well as the ISL8338M integrated circuit driver, which are suitable for various AC/DC and DC/DC flyback and buck SMPS applications.

The ISA1450/1 integrated circuit operates from an 8–14 VDC input voltage range, with maximum power levels of 12 to 20 W output. It is a pulse-width modulated (PWM) controller with conventional on/off control designed to provide high efficiency and low noise. The integrated circuit also features over current protection, frequency foldback, enable/disable, and adjustable soft start.

The ISL8338M integrated circuit is a high-performance gate driver specifically designed for low-side IGBTs and MOSFETs used in buck and flyback topologies. It comes with a wide operating voltage range of up to 25 VDC, and a peak output current of up to 6 A. The IC also features disable or enable functions, adjustable dead time, and over-temperature protection.

The STEVAL-ISA145V1 is designed with the flexibility to enable designers to customize the board for their application. It features an adjustable output voltage and operating frequency, an adjustable soft start feature, over-temperature protection, and adjustable dead time. Additionally, it features a range of test points for monitoring devices in various conditions.

The evaluation board is also provided with the STSW-ISA145V1 design software, which allows users to quickly and easily evaluate the device’s performance and features. The software includes a wide range of downloadable templates, such as flyback and buck topologies, power-on waveforms, static on/off control, control waveforms, input voltage range, and start-up. Additionally, the software also includes a documentation section which provides users with detailed information on the evaluation board, design software, and the supported devices.
