Evaluation Boards - Sensors
The STEVAL-MKI164V1 evaluation board, designed in partnership between STMicroelectronics and STMicroelectronics-Sensor-Products, is a sensor-driven evaluation circuit designed to provide a simplified way of measuring and characterizing temperature, pressure, humidity and atmospheric characteristics. The board includes a variety of onboard modules including a thermistor, pressure and humidity sensors, a low amplification front-end, and a digital interface module that can be used with a MCU.
The thermistor module included on the board is a fixed bridge circuit that features a dual N-channel junction field-effect transistor whose junction terminals are connected to two resistors - one on the positive side and one on the negative side. This thermistor can be used to measure temperature changes in the environment. The pressure and humidity sensors included on the board are optical-based sensors that utilize a photoelectric detector to measure changes in atmospheric pressure and humidity levels.
The low amplification front-end module of the STEVAL-MKI164V1 evaluation board provides an efficient and effective way of processing data from the thermistor, pressure and humidity sensors. This module includes two operational amplifiers, a three-state voltage divider, and a power amplifier. The operational amplifiers are used to amplify the analog signal received from the thermistor, pressure, and humidity sensors. The three-state voltage divider is used to provide greater reliability in providing an input voltage range of 1 to 5V. Finally, the power amplifier is connected to increase the amplified signal from the operational amplifiers and make the signal compatible with the digital interface module.
The digital interface module included on the STEVAL-MKI164V1 evaluation board offers a MCU interface to the thermistor, pressure, and humidity sensors. This interface module includes a serial peripheral interface (SPI) for data communication, an I2C master/slave bus, and an analog-to-digital converter. The serial peripheral interface is used to enable communication between the thermistor, pressure, and humidity sensors and the MCU. The I2C bus is used for providing two-way data transfer between the thermistor, pressure, and humidity sensors and the MCU. Finally, the analog-to-digital converter allows for the data received from the thermistor, pressure, and humidity sensors to be converted into a digital format for use internally by the MCU.
The STEVAL-MKI164V1 evaluation board provides a simplified way of measuring and characterizing temperature, pressure, humidity and atmospheric characteristics. This board has a variety of onboard modules that include a thermistor, pressure, and humidity sensors, a low-amplification front-end, and a digital interface module for use with a MCU.
