The STEVAL-TLL010V1 is an evaluation board designed to demonstrate high-voltage LED drivers. This board provides a single AC/DC high-voltage (HV) isolated output isolated off-line flyback converter with integrated primary power switch. The board is a two-layer PCB, with no copper pour on the back side. It is specifically designed for LED drivers.

This high-voltage LED driver evaluation board features four primary safety resistors, providing comprehensive protection against VDD over-voltage and too-high energy leakage. Also, the evaluation board can detect over-current conditions in the primary side, with a wide range of external components allowing for fine-tuning of the primary-side current regulation. Additionally, the board includes three integrated tank capacitors, providing an adjustable output voltage up to 250V, as well as a regulation IC that enables secondary-side constant current regulation for LED string current regulation.

The STEVAL-TLL010V1 evaluation board is suitable for a wide range of general and automotive LED lighting applications, such as LED tube lighting, backlight LED lighting, and vehicle auxiliary lighting. This evaluation board is designed to be made to IEC 60950-1 and IEC 60065 safety standards. It is also designed to be compatible with ISO 7637-2 and ISO 16750 automotive standards.

The working principle of the STEVAL-TLL010V1 evaluation board is based on an isolated off-line flyback converter. It is comprised of a primary power circuit and a secondary output circuit, which are isolated from each other by an input isolation, made possible by a transformator. The primary power circuit comprises a power switch, a diode, a reservoir capacitor and a primary winding. The secondary output circuit consists of a secondary winding, a rectifier, a power factor correction circuit, a filter, and a voltage regulator. This isolated off-line flyback converter works by drawing current from the line, storing it in the capacitor, and then releasing it to the load in a controlled way.

In the primary power circuit, the switch is turned on and collects electrical charge from the line. The line current is rectified and filtered by the diode and reservoir capacitor, before being sent to the primary winding. When the switch turns off, the current stored in the primary winding couples to the secondary winding, which is rectified, filtered and regulated. The voltage regulator ensures that the output voltage remains stable, despite fluctuations on the line. In this way, the isolated off-line flyback converter is able to deliver a steady supply of current to the load, while maintaining electrical safety.
