Description

The TLZ16C-GS18 is a single Zener diode. It is housed in a standard SOD-123 package, making it suitable for automatic assembly processes. The TLZ16C-GS18 also has a high dielectric strength up to 300VDC, making it suitable for applications with high breakdown voltages.

Working Principle

The TLZ16C-GS18 is a single Zener diode. It works on a simple principle. The device has a P-N junction between a P-type and N-type semiconductor, which is shown in the figure below. The device operates in a reverse-biased condition. When a reverse bias voltage is applied across the Zener diode, free electrons from the N-region and holes from the P-region cross the junction and form a depletion region. In the depletion region, due to the lack of charge carriers, the current is zero. As the reverse bias voltage increases, the width of the depletion region increases and the electric field gains strength. When the voltage reaches the breakdown voltage, the electric field strength is so large that the electrons and holes can overcome the barrier and the current will start flowing through the diode.

The typical breakdown voltage of the TLZ16C-GS18 is 16V and it has a very low noise and power dissipation, making it suitable for use in precision power supplies.
