The general working principle of the TOP257YN is that it uses an oscillator to generate pulses and convert ac voltage to dc voltage. This process is known as Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). When the current sense transistor is switched on, the generated voltage is averaged and converted into a regulated dc voltage.
