Working Principle

TOP201YN is based on a primary side control topology, which offers excellent power efficiency and high accuracy in active power factor correction. The primary side control of the chip eliminates the need for a dedicated secondary-side controller or synchronous rectification, and thus reduces the overall system cost and power losses. The power factor is adjustable over the full load range, thanks to the intelligent primary side control.

The chip features a built-in linear/PWM modulator that can be switched by external control. With this, phase-shifted zero current switching (ZCS) technique is applied that prevents four pairs of MOSFETs from being turned on at the same time. In order to minimize low frequency rippling and thermal stress, the ZCS technique is implemented at two different switching frequencies. This leads to high-power quality performance, higher efficiency, and smaller system size.

The TOP201YN also feature isolated feedback, which produces a clean and accurate output voltage by sensing the output voltage through an isolated feedback path. This is essential for applications with multiple outputs and tight load regulation. An open-loop control circuit can be used to ensure accurate output voltage or current at any operating condition. Furthermore, the chip also has various protections such as short circuit, over current, over temperature, etc.

Applications
