TOP245F Working Principle
The TOP245F ACDC converter uses two components to convert AC to DC. Firstly the mains voltage is rectified by a diode bridge and then the DC output is filtered and regulated by an active switch mode power supply (SWPS). The mains voltage is rectified to DC by the diode bridge, and then the DC output is filtered by an inductor and capacitor filter. The active switch consists of a MOSFET switch and an oscillator, which control the voltage present at the output of the filter. The MOSFET switch is operated in an on/off mode, while the oscillator controls the frequency of the switching of the MOSFET switch. This in turn controls the output voltage of the filter.
The TOP245F offline switcher is a pulse width modulation (PWM) converter, which uses a high frequency H-bridge for its power switch. The PWM is used to control the on/off switching of the power switch, in order to regulate the output voltage of the switcher. This is done by charging and discharging an inductor with the current present.
