The TPS22916BYFPT is a robust power management integrated circuit (PMIC) designed to deliver the highest levels of reliability and performance required in today’s advanced applications. The device is capable of delivering up to 8.5 Amperes (A) of continuous current in a wide range of applications.

The heart of the TPS22916BYFPT is a control logic block and two power MOSFETs. The logic block incorporates a variety of protection features to ensure safe and efficient operation. These features include a thermal protection circuit that will shut off the internal power MOSFET if overheating occurs, as well as over-temperature sensing, over-current sensing, under-voltage sensing, over-voltage sensing, and fault indication. Additionally, the device is protected against electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage by a built-in diode.

The two power MOSFETs, one NFET and one PFET, are integrated onto the chip and can deliver up to 8.5A. The NFET and the PFET are individually controlled by a logic block, allowing the device to act as a switch capable of controlling a high current load. The control logic block also contains a high frequency clocking signal generator, which helps reduce power losses during switching. When the device is enabled, the signal generator will automatically enable and disable the appropriate MOSFETs depending on the state of the distribution pins. This allows the TPS22916BYFPT to switch the load on and off without waiting for the external supply voltage to stabilize.

The TPS22916BYFPT PMIC also incorporates a variety of operating modes. These include “off-to-gate” and “on-to-gate” modes, as well as “always-on-gate” and “always-off-gate” modes. The “always-on-gate” mode allows the user to keep the device in a steady on state, but with the ability to prevent a backflow of current. The “always-off-gate” mode allows the user to turn the device off for short periods of time and prevent backflow of current.
