They detect, measure and interpret ambient light and infrared levels, and are able to adjust brightness settings or adjust device features based on the detected light environment. The Texas Instruments TSL25403 is a light-to-digital converter designed to accurately measure light intensity in the visible and infrared spectrum. Working Principle
The TSL25403 functions by converting light intensity into an analog voltage. The working principle of the TSL25403 can be divided into four stages: ambient light measurement, analog-to-digital conversion, digital filtering, and interruption signaling.
In the ambient light measurement stage, the sensor converts light intensity into an analog voltage using a photodiode. The magnitude of the voltage is proportional to the measured light intensity. The second stage is the analog-to-digital conversion. The analog voltage is converted into a digital signal using an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), and the results are output in either 8 or 12 bits. The third stage is the digital filtering, which is used to reduce noise from the measured signal and optimize the accuracy of the readings. Finally, the fourth stage is the interruption signaling, which is used to alert the microcontroller of changes in light intensity. The TSL25403 features two interrupt signals: “l” and “h”. The “l” signal is used to indicate when light intensity drops below a threshold value, while the “h” signal is used to indicate when light intensity exceeds a threshold value.
The TSL25403 is an efficient and cost-effective sensor for measuring light intensity over a wide range.
