The TSL25913FN is a field-programmable, light-to-digital converter used for ambient light, infrared, and ultraviolet sensing applications. With an input voltage range from 1.4 volts to 3.6 volts, the device can accurately measure and spit out ambient light, infrared, and ultraviolet intensity values in the presence and absence of ambient lighting.
The device features an active light sensing element configured as a two-zone array through which the incident light is converted to a proportional voltage. The two-zone array enables wide dynamic range of intensity values by combining the voltage from discrete zones of the array. The output steps of the device are calibrated directly to an illumination level ranging from 0 to 12,000 Lux.
The device has a standard 16-pin configuration, making it easy to integrate into a wide range of circuits and configurations. It features an in-built A/D converter for the conversion of the raw electrical signal to a digital signal, allowing additional digital processing of the same. All components within the device are designed to be extremely low-power and conserve energy.
The device is sensitive enough to detect extremely low light levels but also provides extremely linear output characteristics right up to and above the expected levels of ambient lighting in a range of environmental conditions. This enhanced measurement feature of the device enables more than one point to be measured every measurement cycle, making it possible for multiple points of illumination to be measured simultaneously.
