The UCC24610EVM-563 evaluation board is a member of the DC/DC and AC/DC SMPS, with the purpose of demonstrating and evaluating the UCC24610 IC. The board creates a buck converter for DC/DC and AC/DC converters offering a liquid-crystal display (LCD) backlight with built-in dimming, dimming frequency and brightness level options, adjustable 1V to 18V output start-up voltage, adjustable output current from 0A to 10A, an input voltage range of 85V to 265V and a dimming frequency range of 40 kHz to 258 kHz.The board specifically implements the basic segments for the UCC24610 IC, which allows designers to explore the huge potential of the IC’s applications. Such applications include white LED backlighting, front panel displays, small size displays and AC/DC power supplies.In order to maximize design flexibility, the board includes external signals that allow customers to control the multiple dimming and brightness controls available on the IC, allowing optimization of power up sequencing and start-up time. By varying the dimming frequency, the brightness of the LCD backlight is effectively adjusted while keeping the LED current constant.The UCC24610EVM-563 also allows for optimising power efficiency, as the board implements Power Factor Correction (PFC) with an adjustable Buck output current, allowing for efficient energy harvesting. The buck converter also allows for designing high-current, low-voltage applications. The adjustable output voltage enables designers to evaluate output ranges suitable for a wide variety of loads. The board’s hardware design includes a three-terminal linear regulator used to generate the fixed 1V required for the IC’s internal logic, allowing engineers to easily analyse behaviour of the UCC24610. On board LED indicators included on the board assist with the visualisation of various operational states, as the LEDs light up to indicate current levels, voltage levels, output current state, and the presence of an input AC supply.The board also contains a pair of USB ports to allow real-time interactive evaluation of the integrated features of the UCC24610 via the GUI. Engineers can view the different waveforms generated by each stage and can make parameter adjustements in real-time via the proposed GUI interface.Ultimately, the UCC24610EVM-563 accurately depicts the capabilities of the UCC24610 IC, allowing for a simplified design process, a minimised effort of system integration, and critical assessment of PFC performance. The board is thus well suited to evaluate the features of the UCC24610 IC for a variety of purposes, with its adjustable input voltage, adjustable output current, and multiple dimming options, while observing a favourable power factor value.
