UCC29950D is a highly advanced off-line digital Power Factor Correction (PFC) controller. It is a sophisticated chip set designed to improve power factor, reduce losses and increase power efficiency in Switch-Mode Power Supplies (SMPS). Its application field mainly exists in residential, commercial, industrial and transportation applications.The UCC29950D has the feature of high integration. It integrates PFC, fixed frequency converter and output protection (OVP/OCP) tightly together to realize outstanding performance. With a wide input gap of 100VAC, it can work in any condition and suit any single phase and three phase mains.The main structure of the UCC29950D includes a power factor correction (PFC) controller, a multiphase buck converter and various protection circuits. The PFC controller adopts a digitally controlled current-sensing PFC technology, which is used for meeting the present regulations of IEC 61000-3-2 and EN61000-3-2 for harmonic content. It can tolerate extreme input current up to 100A, making it ideal for high power applications. At the same time, the ingenious current shift technique shrinks input current ripple, reduce power dissipation and lowers component count, cost, size and system weight.The device utilizes a Δ φ feedback structure, which derives the fundamental component of current. For the reduced burden of external components, the system adds a MOS transistor as the controlling component, so the dynamic response of system is enhanced. The multi-phase Buck converter can provide excellent output voltage stability and system efficiency.The UCC29950D also provides protection circuits such as Over-Voltage Protection (OVP), Over-Current Protection (OCP) and so on. The OVP is mostly used to prevent the system from over-current situation, while the OCP is mostly used to keep the system from over-voltage.To sum up, UCC29950D is a highly advanced off-line digital Power Factor Correction (PFC) controller.
