Its synchronization options provide flexibility for switching frequency, and its functions include hill-climb energy management, open line protection and low standby mode power consumption for high power factor at light loads.It can also work with AC and DC power sources, making it suitable for offline switchers and converters. Additionally, its zero voltage switching (ZVS) functionality eliminates switching losses and helps to improve power efficiency, even at light load currents. For motor drives, its motor sense device can provide relatively high speed motor protection or a solution to enable load detection and monitoring.The UCC2809D-1 is powered by an internal 8-bit MSP430 microcontroller core. This microcontroller consumes a low quiescent current, enabling operation at low cost and low power levels. The MSP430 can provide up to 16K of program memory, making it suitable for complex control applications. Hardware design of the UCC2809D-1 is based on a two-stage, two-phase buck converter topology. The first stage consists of power factor correction with an active PFC converter and a single resonance inductor. The second stage comprises a full-bridge, buck-boost Buck/Boost converter with an external inductor for adjustment of output voltage. This topology is suitable for both offline converters and offline switchers applications.The control loop of the UCC2809D-1 adjusts the input currents in the active PFC converter so that their total harmonic distortion is kept below the required level, thereby improving power factor. The Buck/Boost converter adjusts the output voltage in the second stage, thus providing regulation.
