The UCC28633DR is an integrated device designed to provide an efficient control solution for flyback converters. It is an offline switching device manufactured by Texas Instruments. It offers a flexible power solution for applications such as home appliances, telecom base station supplies, motors, and other industrial equipment.The UCC28633DR comprises an integrated 800V power MOSFET, a primary-side controller, an integrated current-mode synchronous gate driver, and a few external components. The device is a power management integrated circuit (PMIC) that provides a cost-effective solution for offline AC-to-DC conversion.The UCC28633DR is composed of four parts: the MOSFET, the controller, the synchronous gate driver, and a few external components. The MOSFET is an integrated 800V power MOSFET which simplifies the design and reduces the overall cost and size of the system. The controller is a primary side, peak current mode synchronous controller and provides excellent protection, efficient conversion, and fast transient response.The synchronous gate driver is an integrated high-side, low-side driver with current sense. It is designed to provide superior high-side and low-side control accuracy and reduce overall system power loss. The external components are designed to accommodate the characteristics of the converter.The operation of the UCC28633DR follows the principle of continuous conduction mode (CCM). In CCM, the inductor current is kept constant, reducing the switching losses, EMI, and resulting in efficiency improvements. The operation is accomplished by sensing the primary side inductor current with a current transformer and regulating the switching frequency, enabling a fixed off time.The controller compares the sensed current with a predetermined set point to determine the switching frequency, which can also be adjusted by the external components. The maximum power point tracking (MPP) algorithm is embedded in the device, which makes it possible to track the optimal input power point automatically and maintain it under input voltage variations.The UCC28633DR provides adjustable primary voltage scaling, folding peak current limit, and constant off-time control. It is designed with numerous protections such as over-voltage (OVP), over-temperature (OTP), over-current (OCP), andfoldback current protection (FCP).The UCC28633DR is an ideal solution for offline AC-to-DC conversion applications. It provides high efficiency, fast transient response, and low cost with a small form factor. By integrating the MOSFET, controller, and gate driver, the device reduces the overall system power loss and simplifies the design.
