The UCC28C44P is an integrated circuit for pulse width modulation control used in offline switchers. It is a complete single-stage, AC-DC converter, with additional integrated components to aid in the design and implementation of off-line AC-DC power supplies. Underpinned by its advanced semi-conductor architecture and integrated topology, the UCC28C44P is ideal for use as part of an AC-DC power switch.The UCC28C44P is designed to operate with a wide range of input voltage sources, ranging from 45v to 265v, and an output voltage of up to 110v. This circuit employs an ‘Autoregulated’ topology which allows for improved ripple rejection and superior line regulation at light loads, thereby improving system performance and shortening development time.The UCC28C44P also incorporates ‘Advanced Waveform Analysis Technology’ which can be used to minimize current consumption and reduce switching loss at heavier loads. In this application, UCC28C44P also uses Programmable Overcurrent Shutdown and Auto-Recovery features for protection against load fault conditions.The majority of offline switchers are typically configured using the popular ‘half bridge’ topology. The first step in the process is generating the power factor correction. This is done by transforming the input AC voltage into a rectified DC voltage which is then fed to a chopper circuit. The chopper circuit is capable of producing a pulse width modulated output of varying widths, based on the rectified DC input voltage and the load current drawn from the output supply.The output of the chopper is then fed to the UCC28C44P, which further manipulates the pulse width modulated signal before feeding it to the output supply. The UCC28C44P uses its integrated features to regulate the amplitude and frequency of the modulated signal to ensure the output voltage remains regulated and within specified parameters for the load current.The UCC28C44P can also be used in offline systems where the input power source is not AC. In such applications, the UCC28C44P can be used to transform the input voltage into a varying pulse width modulated signal.
