UCC38085P is a triple-output p-channel, synchronous, MOSFETdc-dc step-down switchingregulator (also known as a buck regulator) that is designed to provide precisely regulated output voltages from a wide input voltage rangesof 4.5 V to 40 V. It comes with adjustable-frequency voltage-mode architecture with a 45V internal synchronous MOSFET and low standby quiescent current of 1.2 uA, typically. This regulator has power-saving integrated resonators, allowing fixed-frequency operation and reducing external componentsand cost. The UCC38085P is ideal for a wide range of space-conscious applications.

The UCC38085P has a unique working mechanism. The voltage-mode, current-mode architecture uses a voltagemode compensation to provide stability. The device includes integrated linear regulator, a SYNCIN input to synchronize to external clock, an enable pin and a disable pin. The SYNCIN input is connected to external clock which allows the device to switch frequency. The enable and disable pins can be used to enable and disable the UCC38085P circuit. The integrated linear regulator prevents device failure and helps provide continuous output current over the wide input voltage range.
The UCC38085Ps internal circuits includes an oscillator that runs fixed-frequency synchronous rectification, two highside and two low-side MOSFETs, two inductors, two low-dropout linear regulators, a high voltage MOSFET and a pre-biased start-up circuit for safe start-up. When power is applied, the start-up circuit ensures that the UCC38085P initiates an ac cycle by allowing the oscillator to start up. Once oscillation begins, the start-up circuit is disabled and it is possible to access the VIN input. When the voltage at the VIN pin rises above the control voltage threshold, the gate drivers turn on the MOSFET. This results in current flowing through the inductor, a process that increases the output voltage.
The output voltage of the UCC38085P is controlled by the internal circuitry, which includes an error amplifier, a current limit comparator, a duty cycle comparator, and different control logic. The error amplifier senses the voltage differential between the output voltage and the feedback voltage, thus determining the output voltage. The current limit comparator is used to control the current level, providing protection against device failure. The duty cycle comparator is used to sense the current flow and adjust the switching frequency accordingly.
