Working Principle
The UCC38C44DGK is an off-line, high-performance AC/DC converter. It operates in peak current mode with a constant frequency.The power MOSFETs operate in a half-bridge circuit with the control loop providing for an excellent line and load transient response. The output voltage is precisely regulated by detecting the current at the primary side output filter inductor. The peak current is sensed by an external NPN transistor.
The gate drive for the power MOSFETs is provided by the Dynamic Self-Biasing circuit. This ensures the right gate drive and the lowest possible switching losses. A PWM comparator and a Sawtooth oscillator generate a fixed frequency triangle waveform and produce a PWM logic signal. The Propagation Delay Resync circuit is used to resynchronize the FET gate and the oscillator to ensure a minimum jitter and keep the duty cycle within a range of 10%-90%.
UCC38C44DGK features Current Limit which protect the power MOSFETs and the output filter components. Additionally, it provides for the demagnetization protection of the inductors.
