Working principle
UCC3917DTR operates on an input voltage between 4.5 and 36V, providing precision voltage and current sensing, overvoltage and undervoltage detection, and independent timers. The device has four output pins, one for each phase, that can be used to power an external load, such as a DC/DC converter.
When the device is powered for the first time, it begins a startup sequence, gradually increasing its output current. When the output current reaches a preset threshold, the device stops its startup sequence and monitors the output voltage. If the voltage drops below a certain level, the device resets and a new startup sequence is initiated. If the voltage is above the preset level, the device turns off its output and enters Standby mode.
The device also monitors the input current to detect over-currents and provides protection against overvoltage. It has two outputs: one is an active-low fault signal to indicate an overvoltage condition, and the other is a power-on reset output. The device also has an on-chip temperature sensor to provide temperature protection, allowing the system to shut down safely if the temperature exceeds a preset limit.
