Power factor correction (PFC) is a key component of many power system designs, and can help ensure efficient, reliable power delivery. The UCC3818ADR is an integrated, high performance power factor correction (PFC) controller designed for use in a buck topology and targeted at applications with medium power requirements, such as servers and telecommunications infrastructure.The UCC3818ADR is a family of integrated PFC controllers equipped with features like programmable Slope Compensation & Cycle-by-Cycle Current Limiting that suit many of today’s commercial and industrial applications. It is built on a proprietary design that provides high performance in applications requiring PFC solutions ranging from a few hundred watts to thousands, and offers a high efficiency power conversion solution with up to 97% efficiency ratings.This family of PFC controllers offers a variety of features to ensure reliable power delivery and optimum system performance. These features include Voltage-Mode Constant-On-Time Control and Automatic Burst Mode Operation, integrated Over-Current and Over-Voltage protection, which protect the system and reduce component temperature. Additionally, all models provide programmable current limit, soft-start, and enhanced Slope Compensation which dramatically reduces current ripple, allowing for higher switching frequencies. The integrated cycle-by-cycle current limiting combines with the Over-Voltage protection to provide highly robust protection against component failure. This system also allows for power monitoring and regulation for improved system reliability. System stability is further enhanced with high-side driver-MOSFETs which provide faster turn-off, greater efficiency, and improved noise immunity.The UCC3818ADR family of controllers provide excellent power factor correction for buck topologies in a range of applications, from industrial and commercial to consumer products. The controllers feature integrated Over-Current and Over-Voltage protection to protect the system, programmable current limit, soft-start, and advanced slope compensation to reduce current ripple.
