Working Principle of UCC3818APW

The PWM control circuit is enabled, which acts as a voltage level detector, comparing the reference voltage with the detected output voltage. When the difference between the two signals is greater than the external feedback voltage, the converter will enter into a continuous conduction mode (CCM).
In CCM, the inductor current is kept almost constant so that the output voltage tends to track the reference voltage. At a certain point, the circuit automatically switches back to DCM when the inductor current falls below the set threshold. Thus, the converter is able to maintain constant current and voltage, achieving near-constant output power. The converter will then continue cycling between CCM and DCM to maintain a constant output power with very high power factor.
The UCC3818APW also incorporates a 1-channel low dropout adjustable voltage regulator (LDO) to enable efficient power conversion in highly-regulated applications. This LDO regulator operates by taking the voltage from the DC rail and charging a capacitor, thus keeping the output voltage of the regulator stable at the desired level.
The UCC3818APW is also equipped with input under-voltage (UV) protection and over-current protection, as well as over-temperature protections features. All of these protection features ensure protection for both the load and the power supply, making the UCC3818APW a dependable and reliable power factor correction circuit.
