The ULN2803ANG4 belongs to the group of transistors and arrays. Specifically, it is a bipolar junction transistor (BJT) array, providing high-current output, low saturation voltage, and low leakage current. This transistor array permits TTL/CMOS input and is also suitable for memory device driving, relay/solenoid driving and lamp driving. It consists of eight Darlington arrays and each of them is composed of two bipolar transistors.
The ULN2803ANG4 features a relatively low output saturation voltage. It has a maximum collector-emitter saturation voltage of 1.5V at a collector current of 500mA. At the same collector current, the input voltage should not exceed 5.5V. This transistor array can also be used for various applications, including the driving of relay, solenoid, and lamp due to its maximum output current of 500mA per channel and its low saturation voltage. In addition, it is capable of general memory device driving, and can supply a maximum output current of 500mA.
The ULN2803ANG4 also offers good on-state output voltage and current gains. This transistor array is constructed with a Darlington configuration, which has many advantages over single transistor configurations. Because of the Darlington’s high input impedance, it can drive multiple outputs simultaneously. The ULN2803ANG4 also has darlington parasitics, preventing the output saturation voltage from increasing too fast and further protecting the circuit from devices that would be damaged by a higher voltage. Furthermore, it has a low power-on voltage of 1.7V and can provide a maximum output current of 500mA.
The ULN2803ANG4 further requires a low input current. It requires only 2.2mA of input current, which means it can operate with very low power supply voltage. Its low power-on voltage also makes it suitable for use with sensitive circuit components and sensitive devices as it will not supply over-voltage to them. Moreover, it has low off-state leakage current, eliminating erroneous signals and false operations.
The ULN2803ANG4 offers a relatively fast rise time (typical high-to-low from a 5V supply is 15ns) and a maximum data rate of 10MHz, making it an ideal choice for applications requiring high speed. This transistor array is also capable of dissipating up to 500mW of power and can operate from -40°C to 85°C.
In summary, the ULN2803ANG4 is a high-current, low saturation voltage, and low leakage current transistor array with a darlington configuration, suitable for memory device driving, operating with very low voltage, low current and high speeds. It can also be used for driving relays, solenoids, and lamps.
