PTC Resettable Fuses
PTC resettable fuses use the principle of a polymeric PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) element to detect overloaded current situations and open up the circuit to protect any connected components. The PTC element is usually attached to a metal strip lead which serves both as a current conductor as well as a heat conductor.
When a PTC resettable fuse encounters an overload situation, the current increases rapidly. As the current increases, the temperature of the PTC element also increases and its resistance increases exponentially. This current-to-temperature rise creates a runaway effect, which forces the current to drop quickly and the fuse to open up the circuit.
Once the circuit is opened, the PTC element will cool down, and its resistance will return to its initial level. Then, the circuit can be reconnected and the device is ready to be used again. This resetting cycle is repeated as long as the current does not exceed its maximum load.
VTP/200GF application field is mainly for industry, home appliances, automotive electronics and communications device and other electromechanical device protection, and the most common areas of application are industrial control, uninterruptible power supplies, solar photovoltaic inverters, inverters, LED drivers, and automotive electronics.
VTP/200GF can be used to provide overcurrent protection of power distribution bus, secondary undervoltage protection and signal zero cross short circuit protection. It can provide two types of overcurrent protection: the first type is to detect the overload of the entire distribution bus, and the second type is to detect the overload of the load within the distribution bus.
Under normal conditions, the fuse will run constantly. When the current flow in the circuit exceeds a certain range, the PTC element will heat up that will break the connection and turn off the circuit. The PTC element used in the VTP/200GF has stable performance and high temperature resistance, and the circuit has a wide range of operating temperatures. Therefore, the VTP/200GF operates normally even in extreme weather conditions.
The VTP/200GF design has the advantage of reset ability and easy handling in the field. The user can easily reset the fuse in the field by turning off the power, waiting for the element to cool down and reconnecting it. Furthermore, the design is made such that the PTC element will be saved even when it trips to protect the device from further damage.
The VTP/200GF is able to work effectively in any environment of power supply up to 200A. The working principle of the fuse is to prevent overload situations. It is designed to cut off current flow when the current gets too high, thus protecting components of the circuit from any potential damage. The fuse gives an accurate protection against overloads and short circuits, allowing the circuit to resume operation after a short reset period.
