Thyristors - SCRs

A Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR) is a type of solid state, control device composed of four alternating layers of p-type and n-type silicon. SCRs are a variation of thyristors, which are devices composed of four layers of alternating p-type and n-type material that control current by using the movement of electrons and holes. The thyristor\'s primary purpose is to provide a low-power electronic device for controlling larger-power circuits, such as lights and motors.

The 25TTS08STRR is a type of thyristor/SCR device, specifically part of the SCR family. It was designed for use in multiple applications including power control, motor control, and lighting control.

25TTS08STRR Applications

25TTS08STRR Working Principle

The way the 25TTS08STRR works is through the use of two different conduction paths, usually made of p-type and n-type silicon material. In order for the device to turn on and off, electrons must be able to travel across the two paths. When the device is not conducting current, the two paths act as a barrier and electrons can not flow across. When a positive voltage is applied to one electrode, the electrons will jump the gap between the two paths, thus allowing for current to flow.

When electrons are able to travel between the two paths, an avalanche effect occurs. This effect then causes the other gate of the device (the cathode) to be triggered, allowing additional current to flow. The result is the device turning on and allowing current to continue flowing. The device will stay on in this state until a negative voltage is applied to the control gate, which then causes it to turn off.
