Thyristors - SCRs are components that can be used to control and regulate the flow of electricity by requiring a specific pattern of electrical signals to be applied before their switching action is enabled. 2N2325S belongs to the category of Thyristors - SCRs. It is a high-performance Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR), designed mainly as a controllable power four-quadrant switch.
2N2325S is a bidirectional four-layer thyristor with two gate terminals, two anode terminals (A1 and A2) and two cathode terminals (C1 and C2). With the associated gate circuits, this SCR acts as an efficient switch with fast switching characteristics, which can be triggered at a varying angle of electrical conduction. In addition, it is rated for a maximum VTM of 1600V, IGT of 10mA and IGT of 100mA.
The 2N2325S Thyristor offers considerable advantage in terms of wide turn-off capability and low forward voltage drop, making it suitable for use in low power switchgear and control systems. It is also ideal for applications that require a high degree of on-off current control. Moreover, this SCR is capable of providing highly reliable turn off, thereby meeting the requirement of the most demanding applications.
The working principle of 2N2325S is the same as the conventional thyristors. It mainly works on the basis of the two-stage thyristor switching process known as the “breakover” and “holding” stages. Soon after the thyristor is triggered, it enters the breakover stage where a strong inrush of current takes place. Once this stage is over, the thyristor enters the holding stage where the current flow is maintained and the voltage drop across the device is stabilized at a certain level, known as the “triggering voltage”. By controlling the application of gate signals, the 2N2325S Thyristor can be switched on or off with any desired timing.
Due to its low forward voltage drop and quick switchover capability, the 2N2325S is widely used in various applications such as motor control, light dimming, power conversion, HVAC systems, switch mode power supplies, adjustable speed drives and server inrush current limiting. Furthermore, it can also be used for fault protection systems for surge protection, phase control and overvoltage protection. It is also used in rectifier control and phase angle control circuits to perform phase control and phase angle modulation.
The 2N2325S SCR has excellent characteristics, making it a suitable device for a variety of applications. It offers high on-off current capability, fast turn-off processes, low forward voltage drop and a wide breakdown voltage range. With the associated gate circuits, it can be easily controlled and offer a wide variety of control functions, such as phase control and angle modulation.
