2N696S is a single bipolar junction transistor (BJT). It is constructed of three layers of semiconductor materials of different types - two P-type layers surrounding an N-type layer. This transistor offers excellent DC current and voltage gain and good switching speed for various switching and amplifier applications.
A transistor has three terminals, called collector, base and emitter, which form a current-controlled current source. In a bipolar junction transistor, the collector current I C flows from the collector to the emitter because of an electric field created by a small current from the base terminal. Generally, the collector current is proportional to the current flowing through the base.
