Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS), is a technique used to generate a precisely calibrated signal with very high resolution. It is used in various fields such as instrumentation, test and measurement, communication, automated production, and multimedia systems. AD9854ASTZ is a direct digital synthesizer chip used in a variety of demanding applications.

The AD9854ASTZ is a high-performance, integrated design that includes a high-performance analog-to-digital converter (ADC), a digital-to-analog converter (DAC), and a phase-locked loop (PLL) to build a complete direct digital synthesizer. The integrated design of this device ensures excellent performance in a wide range of applications and is available in different package types including SMD, VQFN, and LGA.

The AD9854ASTZ uses a PLL-based architecture in order to achieve high frequency stability and accuracy. In this architecture, an input reference frequency is used to generates a high-resolution output frequency. With a 0.7V to 1.4V supply voltage and sleep mode enabled, this device consume less than 18 mW. By utilizing the internal PLL and on-chip control features, the power consumption is further reduced. The device can run from a fast charge pump, enabling it to generate output frequencies over a wide range – from frequencies down to 1 Hz up to frequencies over 100MHz.
