Motion Sensors - Gyroscopes
The ADXRS450BEYZ-RL, manufactured by Analog Devices, is a highly reliable, low-cost, low-power, two-axis, surface-mount gyroscope designed to measure angular rate. The internal "perpendicular-axis" sensing element eliminates the need for bias and null or temperature calibration over temperature. - Working Principle:
The ADXRS450BEYZ-RL functions by employing Coriolis sensing principle. It measures the Coriolis force generated by two mechanisms, angular rate about the pitch and roll axes. The Coriolis force is proportional to the angular rate, and it is measured using two sensing elements placed orthogonal to each other. The spring constant of the Coriolis element is controlled to match the transduction from the Coriolis force to the voltage which is the output from the device. The active element is excited to oscillate and the rate of oscillation is proportional to the angular rate that the device is subjected to. This output voltage is proportional to the angular rate. The device then takes the AC signal and rectifies it, conditioning the signal for processing by an analog-to-digital converter, or any other type of processing unit.
The fact that the ADXRS450BEYZ-RL does not need null balance or temperature calibration further reduces costs associated with operation and maintenance. In addition, the device is designed to effectively measure angular rate up to 2kHz, and it can measure temperatures up to 150 °C (302 °F).
