AN8002, an integrated three-terminal positive voltage regulator, is designed for all types of electronic systems for applications such as battery-powered and other portable devices or other low-voltage systems. As a linear voltage regulator, AN8002 provides precise, current and thermal regulation over a wide range of operating conditions. This integrated voltage regulator operates in two modes: shutdown mode and active mode. An internal sense resistor is integrated for precise current management over the entire range of operation.The AN8002 is a simple, versatile 3-terminal adjustable voltage regulator with an adjustable voltage range from 1.2V to 16V. It is specifically designed for a wide range of mobile and low-power applications. The AN8002 integrates a voltage reference with a precise adjustable current limit, thermal shutdown and current limiting circuit, as well as over-voltage protection. The over-voltage protection circuit switches to the shutdown mode at its maximum voltage setting, protecting the voltage regulator in case of an external over-voltage condition. The AN8002 is available in the industry\'s most commonly used SOT-89 and SOT-23 surface-mount package.The AN8002 works by using a linear regulator to convert an input voltage to a lower output voltage. This is done with a voltage divider made from two resistors. When connected to a DC power source, a varying voltage will be applied to them. To regulate the output voltage, a voltage reference is connected in series between the two resistors. When the voltage drop between the two resistors is equal to the reference voltage, the output voltage is regulated. The current in the resistor is monitored by an integration circuit and compared with a reference current and then adjusted accordingly to maintain a constant output voltage.The AN8002 uses the voltage divider topology to accomplish its primary job of voltage regulation. Its current-limiting and over-voltage protection features are also important for system operation, providing current and voltage limits to protect itself and the surrounding electronics. This is done with a sensing resistor that is connected in series between the output and ground.
