The AT45DQ161-SSHFHB-T is a Serial Quad I/O DataFlash memory that is offered in a 8-lead, 4.4mm × 5.7mm SOIC package and 8-bump UDFN package. It is designed to accelerate system performance and balance power consumption with an architecture that allows fast access to asynchronous flash memory. This memory is marketed as a potential drop-in replacement for same-density hard disks and SRAMs when system trade-offs require two seconds of supportable read/write cycles and supply the system with variable payload size, error correction codes and Wear-leveling.

The AT45DQ161-SSHFHB-T memory provides 16 megabits of storage and is broken down into 2048 pages of varying length i.e., 528/528/2048/4096 bytes per page. It also has a built-in SRAM buffer to cache page reads and reduce read time. This buffer is capable of streaming all erased data from the device in a single operation.

The AT45DQ161-SSHFHB-T features advanced security features with battery assisted write protection for user data and sector protection for code, which places identified sectors off limits from erasure or program operations. This is supported through the device’s in-system programmability via its High Speed SPI Mode. This mode allows the user to program within two seconds while maintaining the security of the system.

As with any other DataFlash memories, the AT45DQ161-SSHFHB-T memory supports Advanced Wear Leveling Algorithms. Using a combination of multiple data blocks and wear-levelling algorithms, the device is able to ensure even usage to maximise write/erase cycles. This optimises the life expectancy of the system and its ability to withstand wear and tear.

The AT45DQ161-SSHFHB-T is specified to operate from -40°C to +85°C and its power management design limits power consumption at the various operating conditions. The device requires either a 2.7V-3.6V supply for core operation and a second voltage level for programming and erase operations. The device also supports a low supply voltage indication circuit.

The AT45DQ161-SSHFHB-T device is ideal for data logging applications, including industrial automation, medical, automated meter reading (AMR), utility metering, transportation, automotive and avionics.
