The BQ40Z50EVM-561 is a versatile and advanced evaluation and demonstration board and kit designed for research, development, and demonstration of end-use applications. It is a single-board evaluation and demonstration platform for evaluating the function of the BQ40Z50 device with various types of compatible external components. The platform offers the user the flexibility to quickly and easily prototype an application-specific design.
The BQ40Z50EVM-561 consists of several components including two BQ40Z50 integrated circuits, a three-position coaxial switch, an ATmega128A MCU, and a battery cradle for accommodating a single Li-ion cell. The ATmega128A MCU can be used to program and control the BQ40Z50 device, while the coaxial switch can be used to select the input or output of two or three communication channels, as well as to select between proprietary and general purpose outputs (GPOs). The included BQ40Z50 integrated circuits feature a wide range of functions and features, including accurate temperature sensing and compensation, true analog-to-digital conversion, fast digital signal processing, low power consumpiton, and robust fault detection and protection.
The BQ40Z50EVM-561 is designed for use in applications such as battery monitoring, cell balancing, charger and discharger control, gas gauging, and status monitoring. By customizing the software and the hardware with an external interface, such as a PC, data from the BQ40Z50EVM-561 can be used for design of battery-based systems. The BQ40Z50EVM-561 can also be used to prototype a variety of innovative design applications such as battery-powered consumer electronics, portable medical devices, Smart Grid energy systems, and fire and safety systems.
The BQ40Z50EVM-561 contains all the necessary components and tools for development and demonstration. The ATmega128A MCU enables programming and control of the BQ40Z50 integrated circuits with a variety of external components, including other microcontrollers, optocouplers, and switches. The board also features a pair of LEDs and a bank of push buttons for user-interface operation. In addition, the board provides connectors for interfacing to serial ports, a USB port, and an I2C/SMBus interface, so that users can easily link to an external PC and third-party hardware.
