Evaluation Boards - DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS is a category meant for the overall understanding of a DC1626A-B and its applications and work principles. The DC1626A-B is an off-line SMPS reference design with a flyback topology. The DC1626A-B is a floating secondary flyback converter operating in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). This allows for superior performance when compared to more traditional continuous conduction mode (CCM) designs. The reference design has two voltage rails, one is a 12V rail, operating as the primary, and one is a 3.3V rail operating as the secondary. The board consists of a primary stage with a low-side power MOSFET to provide the appropriate power to the load. This power is then coupled to the secondary through an isolation transformer.

On the primary, the PWM signal is generated by the Optocoupler U2, which is driven by the control system. It is then sent to the main switching transistor M1. The voltage is set using VA1, which sets the DC voltage at the input of the primary-side PWM controller U1. The PWM frequency is externally set using C6. This allows the user to choose any desired frequency between 20kHz and 200kHz. The board supports a maximum input voltage of 80V for safe operation.

On the secondary, the 3.3V output is generated by a transformer based flyback converter topology. The output voltage is set by adjusting the ZVO1 and C2 components. Both of these components have references to make it easier to set the voltage to the desired level. The output voltage ripple is very low and is typically less than 5mVpp. The output current is set using either the 3A or 10A fuses, depending on the application.

The board also has an active crossover by using the secondary winding of the transformer. This allows the board to operate with a leading edge voltage control, having better performance than leading edge current control. It also helps to reduce the output ringing, making the board more suitable for high frequency applications. The board also has several features such as EMC (Electro Magnetic Compatibility) which can be used to enhance the performance.

DC1626A-B is a robust board with high efficiency and good thermal performance, making it suitable for any application.
