The DC2530A is an evaluation board powered by an off-line switched-mode power supply (SMPS). It is built with components suitable for a standard EMI and EMC level for use in all applications including ICP, industrial and consumer, and telecommunications. It has been designed to test SMPS designs for EMI/EMC levels in all possible conditions, from low power/acoustic levels through to normal ACM/EMC levels in the most stringent environments.
DC2530A rated output power is 25W continuous, and the maximum rated input voltage is 90V. The DC2530A board integrates AC/DC flyback isolated SMPS, transient response protection, line regulation, transfer resistance, Pulse Position Modulation (PPM), over-current protection, over-temperature protection, soft-start, and electro-magnetic noise evaluation functions. It also integrates one main oscillator, two power FETs, one bias resistor, and an IC with simple peripheral circuits.
The main function of the DC2530A is to test and evaluate the EMI/EMC performance of the AC/DC off-line SMPS. The main principle is to create a certain frequency and voltage waveform at the input of the SMPS and then to measure the impulse noise generated from all aspects of the power devices used in the configuration, such as switching loss, conduction loss, etc.
The DC2530A has three primary components: the main oscillator, power FETs, and bias resistor. The main oscillator is a multivibrator that generates the pulse and creates the AC waveform frequency. The pulse width at the output of the oscillator is the run rate at which the output voltage waveform will be generated. The power FETs are used to control the output current, and the bias resistor sets the average values during the output phase, allowing the signal to be adjusted.
While the AC waveform frequency is independent of the output voltage, the transfer impedance of the power device and the operating frequency can affect the output voltage. The high frequency audio noise generated at the output of the DC2530A can also play a major role in the EMI performance. The DC2530A can be used to evaluate the line regulation and the transfer impedance of the power device.
The board is equipped with temperature and current sensors to monitor the operating conditions of the board. This ensures that the device is operated in safe and optimal operating conditions. The board also has a fan to dissipate excess heat from the system.
The DC2530A is a powerful device for testing and evaluation of EMI/EMC performance of an off-line SMPS. It has the flexibility to perform EMI/EMC tests in all possible conditions, and can quickly identify the weaknesses in a design. It also provides predictive indicators of potential EMI/EMC issues that can be addressed before the product is officially released.
