DC2581A-B Evaluation Boards - Analog to Digital Converters (ADCs)The DC2581A-B Evaluation Board from Linear Technology is a highly integrated, low power 16-bit Analog to Digital Converter (ADC). The ADC integrates both the analog front end and digital control circuitry on one board to enable sorting, measuring, and transmitting analogue signals into a digital domain with the greatest of ease.The efficiency and performance of the DC2581A-B lies in its low power operation, allowing it to achieve high resolution and accuracy without the need for additional power consumption. This low power requirement enables a range of potential applications, from automotive and industrial control systems to consumer audio.The DC2581A-B features a high dynamic range for capturing and converting signals with minimal distortion. The low thermal noise and high signal-to- noise ratio also fulfills the dynamic range requirements of audio applications. Furthermore, the board includes a wide input signal conditioning range, capable of accepting single-ended or differential input. When it comes to sampling rate, the VB has a programmable setting from zero to 800kHz.The operation of the DC2581A-B Evaluation Board is based on ADC principles that involve three primary stages: analog front end, control, and digital output. The analog front end includes voltage reference and analog signal conditioning, driving the analog signal into the ADC. The control stage comprises the digital timing and data; it is responsible for proper internal sampling, control and output formatting, and selection of the power mode and rate. The digital output stage consists of power management, digital-to-analog converters (for digital output) and high speed converters (for parallel output).The DC2581A-B also includes additional features that improve user experience. One of these is the integrated Power Selector Switch, which allows for selecting between two power sources when measuring different inputs. This ensures the highest accuracy and optimum performance every time, as different signals require different power input configurations.
