Evaluation and Demonstration Boards and Kits, such as the DC2537A, offer engineers and product developers the ability to quickly and easily evaluate designs, demonstrate hardware functionality, and prototype boards. The DC2537A is a DC/DC converter controller development board that is specifically designed for automotive and mixed-signal requirements.
The DC2537A features the Si827x, low drop-out (LDO) regulators for point-of-load (POL) requirements, as well as an integration of industry-leading isolation components. The combination of these components allows the DC2537A to provide exemplary power system regulation performance. It also offers the flexibility to tune the power system to meet individual application requirements. As a result, engineers can quickly and easily develop their own boards and then demonstrate their power system performance with the DC2537A.
The DC2537A provides engineers with the best of both worlds – miniaturization and efficiency. The board is capable of operating at temperatures as low as -25C and as high as +85C with excellent thermal management. The 50W power conversion efficiency achieved with this device is also well above industry standards.
The DC2537A utilizes both linear and switched regulators to provide superior power delivery and efficiency. The controller board features two linear voltage regulators, one operating in a range of 4.5V to 24V and the other in a range of 4.5V to 12V. These regulators are designed to be coupled with an ultra-capacitor bank for energy storage and an ATX 12V AC/DC converter for input voltage conversion.
The board also contains a switching regulator designed to deliver up to 12V and 2A output power. This regulator utilises Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control method for better efficiency and dynamic response time. Additionally, the board contains a high-precision low-noise voltage regulator that can supply 1A and up to 5V output voltage.
The DC2537A also provides a wide range of features designed to simplify the implementation process. It includes a RISC-based embedded processor to provide real-time control over power system parameters, such as over-voltage, over-current protection, monitoring and accurate voltage/current sense. It also has an on-board LCD display for indication of system status and parameters. The board also supports “frugal” power system development, allowing for efficient development by reducing the need for external components.
The DC2537A provides an excellent platform for demonstrating the power system parameters such as line/load regulation, stability, transient response, surge capability, noise rejection, and temperature behavior. The board demonstrates these characteristics through its on-board display to show the DC/DC converter’s functionality. Moreover, the board can track power system parameters in real-time due to its RISC-based embedded processor. This helps engineers understand and adjust the power system behavior quickly and easily.
