The DS2712E+T&R is a solution developed by leading semiconductor producer Texas Instruments, featuring an integrated Power Path Management Unit (PPMU) and a Li+ battery charger. Developed specifically to address the needs of two-property solutions, the DS2712E+T&R has a wide range of applications. From mobile phones and digital cameras through to PDAs and MP3 players, this solution allows developers to quickly and effectively increase the efficiency and reliability of their devices.The DS2712E+T&R is designed to be used in multiplexed solutions with external protection, the so-called Turbocharger solutions. This solution enables the device to incrementally increase the current in order to quickly charge the device’s battery, delivering a high charge current up to 1A with great accuracy. This is achieved by the use of an advanced switch array and high current MOSFETs, enabling fast, accurate charging. This solution also ensures that the battery is protected, preventing against overcharging and over-discharging thanks to the integrated MOSFET protection circuitry.The DS2712E+T&R is connected to the host system and the battery of the device. The Power Path Management Unit (PPMU) is responsible for controlling the power supply, switching between different power sources and controlling the charging process of the Li+ battery. As such, the PPMU monitors the battery voltage and current levels, conducting temperature and voltage compensation to adjust the charge current accordingly.At the beginning of the charging process, the boost converter is enabled, providing a high voltage to the DS2712E+T&R. During charging, the voltage and current levels of the battery are constantly monitored, allowing the PPMU to adjust the charge current in accordance with the needs and conditions of the battery.The charge current can be adjusted according to two factors: the current capacity of the battery, and the level of charge remaining in the battery. By ensuring that the charge current matches the conditions of the battery, it improves the efficiency of the whole system, as well as protecting against overcharging.The PPMU also ensures that the device is protected against thermal faults. Should the temperature of the device become too high, the PPMU will automatically reduce the charge current, before turning off the boosting circuit. This stops the device from over-heating, thus protecting it from long-term damage.The DS2712E+T&R is suitable for a wide range of applications due to its highly accurate charging capabilities and integrated protection features. In mobile phones and other portable devices, it can be used to quickly and accurately charge the device’s battery without the risk of overcharging.
