The DS2726G+ is a battery monitor IC with an integrated rechargeable 2.7 V to 5.5 V sense terminal voltage range and high accuracy fuel gauge. It provides a high level of safety and robustness to battery packs due to its best in class accuracy and ESD protection on the sense line. It offers a series of configurable profiles to the end user application, such as by offering the user self-defined low or critical voltage warning, low battery cut-off, recharge timer and cell balancing.
The DS2726G+ Battery Management system is specifically designed for portable battery-powered electronic devices including cellular phones, digital still/video cameras, and medical devices. Designed to monitor and control up to 6-series battery cells, the DS2726G+ has integrated battery protection functions such as charge and discharge current limiting, and cell balancing capabilities. In addition to monitoring system parameters such as current, voltage, temperature, and capacity, the DS2726G+ also features unique ESD protection, circular buffer of user events, short circuit protections, and an adjustable sleep current.
The DS2726G+ is based on a fractional sense resistor architecture that accurately measures the voltage state of the battery stack. The integrated preamplifier, coupled with the sense resistor, supplies the WSI with an amplified differential voltage signal. The integrated WSI samples data convert this signal into digital values which are represented as the battery stack\'s open-circuit voltage.
The DS2726G+ also consists of a multi-cell battery charge and discharge current limitation feature, which monitors the current applied to or drawn from the battery stack, and limits them to a constant user-defined value. The charge/discharge current monitor uses an optoisolated input to ensure a safe integrated design. The current also limits the total charge, discharge, and input charge current for battery protection.
The DS2726G+ battery management system also offers cell balancing capabilities, which allow the user to avoid irregular cell charging by balancing the cells with relatively low-cost external MOSFETs and sense resistors. A unique feature of the cell balancing function is that the balancing current and time can be easily configured according to the specific application. Other features such as short circuit detect, temperature monitor and integral cycle counter, also provide greater performance and safety assurance.
The DS2726G+ battery protection device provides a complete set of protection features examples of which are built-in safeguards and protection allows such as load disconnect, overcharge protection, temperature monitoring and automatic cell balancing. Furthermore, the DS2726G+ also provides an additional feature: self-defined low or critical voltage warning, which alerts users of impending shut-down or other triggerable events. As improving safety of battery packs is a rising challenge, the DS2726G+ offers best in class accuracy and ESD protection, as well as adjustable sleep current, contributing to the trustworthiness of the battery.
