Application Field
The DS2775G+ battery fuel gauge is a precision system-on-chip integrated circuit for monitoring primary, rechargeable and secondary cell-based battery packs. It expands the designer’s lithium-ion battery management design capability with a combination of high accuracy, improved precision and a higher rate of derivative technology. The DS2775G+ integrates a current sense amplifier for a shunt resistor, temperature sense circuits and an on-chip Coulomb counter. It also supports a bidirectional I2C and SMBus interface.

Working Principle

It measures current by accessing the voltage drop across a sense resistor with its on-chip amplifier, and it samples the voltage of the battery cells to derive the pack voltage and cell voltages. The device then integrates the current to provide measureable charge accumulations over a battery life cycle.
The full-scale range of the device is 12 bits programmable, allowing current and voltage sensing over a wide range. The resolution of the device is also programmable, allowing for very precise measurements. The accuracy of the device is 2 percent, and its update rate is fast (<100µS), making it suitable for monitoring high currents and large capacitive loads.
