Working Principle
The DS2786BG+T&R operates with two types of current sense amplifiers: the linear current sense and the shunt current sense. The linear current sense amplifier is designed to measure the output current of the battery pack, who has a low internal impedance and a wide input operating range (1uV to 600mV). The shunt current sense amplifier is meant for measuring the voltage drop across a shunt resistor for current monitoring. It has a wide input operating range of 1uV to 200mV, and can be configured for either an AC- or DC-coupled operation.
The chip also features a low-side MOSFET that is used to protect the battery pack from exceeding the maximum voltage or current. This MOSFET is controlled by the control register. This register can be programmed to setup the maximum voltage, the current sense amplifier sampling rate, the over-temperature threshold and other protection settings.
The chip also includes an I2C interface that can be used to read the voltage, current, and temperature measurements from the chip. The measurements can then be used to calculate the amount of energy left in the battery pack. Additionally, the chip can generate a blinking LED indication for an under-temperature warning.
