Working Principle
The DTC144VUAT106 is a pre-biased semiconductor component means that the device has already settled a bias voltage between its three terminals. The Device has three terminals namely the emitter terminal which is also known as the output terminal, the collector, which acts as the input terminal, and the base which acts as the controlling terminal. The emitter terminal is connected to the negative supply while the base terminal is connected to the positive supply voltage. The collector is set to the necessary biasing voltage which is usually set at 1/3 of the supply voltage.
This BJT works by the flow of electric current from the base to the collector, causing the flow of electric current from the emitter to the collector. This flow of current is regulated by the control voltage at the base terminal of the device. When the control voltage is increased, the collector current also increases and this causes the voltage drop across the collector-emitter also increases, resulting in a higher power output. Similarly, when the control voltage is lowered, the collector current also decreases and the resulting drop in voltage from collector to emitter results in lower output power.
The gain of this device is usually determined by a figure known as the “beta” which is the ratio of the collector current to the base current. The higher the beta, the higher is the gain of the device. This device has a beta rating of 100, which is considered quite good. This provides excellent gain and current control.
