The FAN2500S33X is a low dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator designed to maintain a stable 3.3 V output voltage over a wide range of input voltages and loads. It is a member of the FAN2500 family of cost-effective, low-supply voltage, low dropout, fixed output regulators. It is optimized to provide accurate voltage regulation and low operating current while offering good transient response characteristics. The FAN2500S33X also offers adjustable output voltage and current limiting protection, reverse current blocking and other safety features.

The FAN2500S33X operates from an input voltage range of 1.8 V to 6.5 V, and it provides a fixed output voltage of 3.3 V with a maximum tolerance of 3% over line, load, and temperature. It regulates to within 1% of the nominal output voltage for load transients up to one amp of load current change.

The FAN2500S33X is intended for applications where low noise, fast transient response, and regulation are essential. Common applications include mobile phones and other portable electronics, memory modules, instrumentation, and embedded computer systems. The FAN2500S33X employs a low dropout (LDO) linear regulator design. This type of regulator uses a series pass device to provide output voltage regulation. A feedback loop, comprised of an error amplifier and comparator, senses the difference between the reference output voltage set by the adjustment pin and the output voltage of the regulator, and makes adjustments to the series pass device to maintain the desired output voltage.

The FAN2500S33X features short circuit and over-current protection. A current limiter is activated in the event of an overload condition. The current limit can be adjusted by changing the external resistor connected to the AMP pin. This regulates the current drawn from the output stage of the regulator. The regulator will also shut down in the event of an output short circuit or an over temperature condition, and can be re-enabled by cycling the power.

In addition, the FAN2500S33X offers reverse current blocking and a fast transient response to accommodate harsh environmental conditions. The device has a low quiescent current and 2.2-μA shutdown current, and a output voltage accuracy within 3 ppm/°C over temperature. It is able to deliver up to 250 mA of output current, with a maximum dropout voltage of 0.27 V at full load.

The FAN2500S33X is available in a tiny 3-pin SOT-23 package and is built using advanced mixed-mode CMOS and bipolar technologies. Its low operating current draws minimal power when in use, making it an ideal solution for applications requiring low-noise performance with efficient power management.
