The FAN2514S30X is a high performance, low dropout linear voltage regulator (LDO) designed for use in highly integrated and power sensitive electronic applications. It is a 3-terminal device that provides a regulated output voltage of 3.3V with a typically dropout voltage of 0.45V at expected full load currents. FAN2514S30X features fast start-up time, low dropout voltage, and low quiescent current, making it suitable for use in battery-powered device, such as portable electronics and mobile phones. In addition, it is also suitable for other manual and automated applications, such as 5V to 3.3V conversion.
The FAN2514S30X is a Programmable Over Temperature Protection (OTP) feature which shuts off the output when a programmable temperature is reached to prevent damage. Additionally, the fast start-up time and high PSRR performance, reduces power consumption and output voltage variation over temperature and input voltage, making the FAN2514S30X ideal for use in sensitive, high-performance applications.
In general, FAN2514S30X can be divided into two categories based on their internal components: linear and switch mode regulators. Linear regulators process power with a series of resistors, diodes and transistors. Switch mode regulators use a switching device in order to regulate output voltage.
The FAN2514S30X is a Linear voltage regulator which consists of an active component and a pass element such as a transistor. The active component includes a current source, an error amplifier and an output driver connected in a feedback loop. The current source supplies the bias current to the pass element, while the error amplifier compares the voltage across the output and sets the desired current to be supplied to the pass element. The output driver provides the power required to control the current supplied by the pass element and determines the output voltage of the regulator.
The FAN2514S30X has advanced features such as Enhanced Line Transient Response, high PSRR and low ESR.
