FAN2513S27X Application Field and Working Principle

The FAN2513S27X voltage regulator series from Fairchild Semiconductor is a 3-terminal, fixed output linear voltage regulator with a low quiescent current and excellent line and load regulation. It\'s capable of delivering up to 300mA of output current and can accept input voltages up to 36V. When the error amplifier determines that the output voltage is equal to the setpoint voltage, the current through the pass transistor will remain constant.

In order to prevent excessive current from flowing through the FET, the FAN2513S27X includes an on-chip current-limiting circuit. This circuit also includes a thermal shut-down feature, which can be used to protect the regulator and the powered device from over-current conditions.
